Friends had good experiences with Portugal and we wanted to try another cruise with Scenic, so this cruise was a great fit. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and we felt it was well worth it. We took the 3 day extension in Lisbon ahead of the cruise and are glad we had a chance to visit there. The one day tour organized by Scenic gave a good overview so we could go back and revisit some of the sights on our free day. Great city to visit. The Scenic Azure is a great ship. The crew was great. All very friendly and attentive to our every wish. All crew members were Portuguese and very friendly, so gave us another source of information about the area and the food. One of the advantages of the small ship experience. It will be hard to adjust to normal life after being spoiled like that. The dining was excellent, with lots of tasty choices at every meal and always some local dishes, so we could experience the area were passing through. My wife's gluten free diet was never a problem as the chef adjusted dishes for her, or offered tasty alternatives. The visits along the Duoro were well planned, well executed and interesting. Many days, there were multiple choices, so you didn't have to suffer from "ABC". One example was a canoeing experience that I enjoyed (although it was a kayak, not a canoe!), while my wife went on a visit to a local farm where she learned how they lived, had a tour of the home and sampled preparation of coated almonds. The guests on this particular cruise were mostly Australian, lots of Canadians and a few Brits to make up the roster. That is a great mix and made it that much more fun. Most of the group was seniors and no children were aboard. Note that the ship departs from its own Quay in the city of Porto, not from the cruise ship port of Leixoes, but the menu above doesn't give that choice. On the down side - internet connectivity was shaky a few times, but the wifi was free and good most of the time. One of the moorings we had to use due to river water level issues was not great since there was nowhere to walk and no wifi, but the rest were excellent. I would definitely recommend this cruise.

Dear John_from_Orleans, Thank you for your review of your Douro river cruise. It's great to hear you enjoyed the three day extension in Lisbon and had a chance to explore the city before the cruise. We are happy to hear that you found all of our crew members friendly and the dining excellent. We are also glad to hear that you enjoyed our Freechoice activities and had a go at kayaking! The internet connectivity sometimes is a little shaky due to travelling through the valley, but glad to know it didn't spoil your trip and you would definitely recommend this cruise to future guests. Best regards, The Scenic Team

Cabin Review

Cabin 219
The cabin, although not huge, was certainly very comfortable and was always well turned out. The bed was very comfortable. Lots of storage options, so we could unpack the suitcases and still find our clothing. The drying line in the shower came in handy to wash the little items to reduce the big laundry requirements. The balcony was a nice quiet place to relax and watch the river go by.
