We chose this cruise because it sailed out of New York so we could drive (5 hour drive) instead of fly. The perks of driving are definitely packing whatever you want and don't have to worry about luggage weight limits/ baggage fees. It was actually quite chaotic getting to the parking garage as lanes aren't marked and lots of merging and honking going on. But, garage was convenient ($20/day). I was worried about the weather thinking it would be cold the majority of the cruise but only embarkation day was chilly and only got chilly again in the evening on the last day at sea.

We arrived at about 9:45 and check in was a little confusing but quick. They let us board at 10:30am. The staff at the port were SO RUDE! We actually got yelled at by an employee because he said the left side of rows could board (we were in 2 rows facing each other) but our group of 10 wanted to board together so we all got up. He seriously tried to stop half of us and we said we wanted to stay together. He said "You have the whole week together!". Sail away from NYC is a unique experience which we all enjoyed.

So, here's my take on Anthem. It's a beautiful ship. Very elegant and clean. Service is amazing as always. But, it doesn't handle crowds well. We went on Oasis last year (more people) and never felt too crowded. On Anthem the Dinner lines were long, Seaplex lines were LONG, Sorrentos pizza lines were long, elevator waits were long, Solarium filed with towels by 7:00 am, getting tendered off the ship took us 2 1/2 hours (and we showed up for our tender ticket 10 minutes after they started giving them out, getting back on the ship in Port Canaveral took a long time as well. Just lots and lots of waiting.

Cabin Review

Superior Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin D3

This cabin was great. They finally have storage figured out on this ship. Seems much more plentiful than other ships. Location on 6 forward makes it easy to get to the esplanade (down 1 floor) or straight up to the Solarium or fitness center. Plus, it's very close to a stairwell. I was worried when we got to our room because in the cabin next door there were screaming kids but inside the room I could never hear anything.
