We have been traveling with Princess for several years. In general we are very happy with the cruise line, and have had very good luck with the land tours companies they contract with. We were on the Diamond Princess, for the second time. The ship showed wear, as did he furniture in the staterooms. In addition, the tile in the shower was moldy! Pictures were sent to Princess. The towels needed to be thrown away! They were old and worn.
Of all of the cruises we have been on, the staff (reception desk and cruise desk) were very difficult to deal with. When calling the front desk, very often, they never answered the phone. When we had an issue with an excursion, the tour desk told us to take it up with customer service. Not the service I normally expect or get.
Our biggest issue was with the Tour Company that they contracted with for the land tour. We were traveling with friends, and clearly wanted to be in the same group. One of the tour directors absolutely refused to make the change. We were fortunately in the other group with a tour director that was terrific, however our friends were with the difficult woman. She was belittling and embarassed them on more than one occasion. Clearly not a people person, and of course, this is a people person job.
The room was old and in need of repair. Old furniture and couch. Moldy shower, tattered towels.
