Let me clarify WHY we were on this cruise so that my criticisms make sense. We wanted to take mom on a trip. The easiest 'foreign' was Panama Canal with 1 flight involved (we live by end port). My brother in law joined us, thus we had 3 cabins. We are NOT drinkers or late night partiers, and none of us lounge in the sun baking by the pool (partly due to fair skin), and we don’t gamble but we appreciate the other various activities offered during the cruise. Thankfully, this ship was to be a mode of transportation, rather than the highlight.
If this sounds like you keep reading. If it doesn't, then you would have a different opinion of some aspects of this review.
We learned on this cruise we DO NOT like sea days. There were way too many with nothing much to do.
Cabins:
The rooms were similar but not identical. 9108 (balcony) 9103 and 9105 insides. I was so glad to have had the balcony for several reasons. It was larger, large enough to have a little love seat between the bed and patio door. The others had a tiny nightstand. The space and light that we got was wonderful. There always a place to sit. (more on that later). The bathroom had a tiny door into the shower (all 3), tiny counter with minimal space The balcony cabin had another tiny door into the toilet space. A large person would have a hard time fitting thru. The inside cabins didn’t have that door which also allowed for a bit more counter space as it wrapped above the toilet. Speaking of which…we were provided the cheapest TP I have ever seen. If you have a tendency to have travelers trouble, I suggest being prepared with some softness of your own or a cream. Just sayin’…that paper is rough. Lighting was ok. Water was OK. No place to put foot to shave in shower and tricky bending over….
The inside cabins had some wall space taken up with a pulldown bunk. Otherwise, I saw no differences. The rooms were pretty dark with little lighting that took a very long time to come on (old fluorescent style). There were only 2 outlets. one in the bathroom and 1 at a counter. Tricky with lots of chargers and devices. Our last cruise had about 6. Several mirrors but not 1 was placed where one could see the back of the hair to style. TV was flat and in the far corner of balcony room (by outside door). In order to see it straight on while laying in bed one had to lay diagonal. There was little to watch anyway. Good movies were scheduled but no guide.
One cabin had serious issues not flushing and was worked on repeatedly. We all had to be taught that you push the button in and release quickly but it still only flushed every few times. 1000 watt HEAVY hairdryer was pretty much a warm breeze. I have shoulder length very straight thin hair and managed to do a minimal dry and short term style but if you really need power, best bring your own and figure out where to plug it in. (I asked if there were other dryers and told no). Housekeeping was good, always doing something, they never seemed to get a break.
Mini fridge was full of alcohol. I didn’t think to have it take out so we could put water in but we squeezed in a few bottles. (btw the coffee etc., $ water, ice bucket, etc clutter stuff barely fit onto an upper shelf out of the way). Towels, OK. Bed comfy. Sheets, why flat that were designed for a double bed? They barely fit and were always untucked and often we found bare mattress or pad in the mornings. Eww. Not stewards fault, nobody could make them stay on a bed. 3 drawers. Closet had a weird design. The ‘shelves’ faced toward the clothes rather than outward and made for awkward reaching for things we couldn’t see. Some hangers but with only 3 drawers, most stuff got double hung. When we were packing to go and doing last inspection I found a pair of nice sunglasses and a sprite in the deep recesses. Turned in. Safe in closet. 2 of the 3 had issues.
