Having cruised with Royal Caribbean for the past 5 - 6 years we decided to give P & O a try on a short trip to New Zealand, then spend time in the land of the long white cloud. Expectations were high as it was supposedly refurbished recently. The following is my review:- SHIP was ok and the shower recess in the CABIN was a welcome change so no problems here. The DINING service was sub-standard and food cold and poor quality. If anyone says the new Pantry style is better than buffet they must be kidding.....food was lacking in meat and seafood variety...staff were reluctant to put much on your plate even when asked, there were line ups all the time (more like Woolies cafeteria), the juice station consisted of 2 tanks of water with orange peel in one and lemon peel in the other, how's that for saving dollars. Hygiene was non-existent and at no time was anyone manning the disinfectant stands to get people to wash their hands......no wonder P & O have problems. The one saving grace for the short cruise was the comedy entertainment which was first class...Bob DOWN led the charge. Finally I will summarise the Pacific Jewel with a new slogan................NO GO P & O.
