My husband and I were looking for a premium experience, with a laid back vibe. We like to go to a party sometimes, but didn't want a party in our faces. As this was our first vacation away from our two small kids, we also wanted to select a cruise line that wouldn't have lots of kids aboard, and there were very few. Having sailed with HAL twice before (Oosterdam in 2004, and Zuiderdam in 2008), I knew it would be a laid back experience. We arrived in Port Everglades early, and were some of the earliest to board, which was nice. But the Lido wasn't open yet, so we enjoyed our first meal via a Dive in Burger, which was excellent! We went to our stateroom, and got unpacked, and were promptly greeted by our cabin steward Agus. He remembered our names by the second day, and always greeted us with a friendly smile and used our names as well.

Throughout the week, we were very pleased with the quality and selection of food in both the kids and main dining room, and the service was friendly and prompt as well. We dined in Tamarind on the first gala night and were very pleased with the quality of our meals, as well as the friendliness and prompt service we received there.

As for the ship itself, she was very clean and in great condition. Knowing she is 8 years old, I expected to see lots of signs of wear and tear, and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was very minimal. The design and decor was very pleasing to my eyes: no gaudy brass atrium, like on some other lines. Our cabin was a very comfortable respite, complete with tub/shower, Elemis haircare and skincare (love Elemis!), a very comfortable king size bed, interactive tv with movies, tv shows, descriptions of available excursions, as well as daily offerings in the dining venues onboard, and last but not least, a lovely private veranda, complete with two loungers. Wanting a laid back experience, this ship didnt disappoint. We rarely had to wait in a line for anything, and always had an easy time finding chairs poolside, even on sea days.

Deluxe Ocean-View Verandah Stateroom

Cabin VF

Very comfortable king sized bed, interactive tv, tub/shower, lovely private veranda. Plenty of space to hang clothes, private safe. There could habe been more drawer space though.

Port Reviews

Half Moon Cay

The perfect place to relax! Lots of open lounges to take in the sun! The sand is like powdered sugar, the water so clear and pristine! We enjoyed the buffet lunch, and tendering in and out was a breeze.

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

We embarked in Fort Lauderdale, didn't take an excursion, but Fort Lauderdale is really beautiful.

Grand Cayman (Georgetown)

I wish we had booked Stingray City in time, but we didn't, so we walked around and window shopped.

Key West

We walked around, covering much of Duval Street, and found lots of souvenir shops with reasonably priced goodies to take home. Didn't eat anywhere there, but walked past lots of local eateries and took in the sights, smells and sounds of the live acoustic guitar music.
