This was my third cruise and my girlfriend's first, and we primarily chose this itinerary because the ports were all appealing. We were both very impressed with HAL and the ship. The service we got on board was excellent without exception, and we plan to sail again with them in the future.

We were hoping for a quiet, relaxing time and HAL delivered. The demographics on the ship definitely skewed older. There were very few people on the cruise under 50, and only a handful of teens and kids. The ship is smaller than most, but it very rarely felt crowded in any of the areas we frequented. We never had any trouble finding a deck chair or quiet bar to hang out in, although we never successfully found an unoccupied hot tub (there were at least 5 of them in several areas).

The food was excellent for the most part. The only obvious exception was the mediocre pizza. We ate at Tamarind on the first night, and that was far and away our best meal of the cruise. It's well worth the extra money if you enjoy asian food, particularly if they're offering the 25% off promotion for the first night. Food in the main dining room was always good with a wide selection of options, though the fancier choices like filet and lobster tend to be reserved for gala nights.

Large Outside Stateroom (fully obstructed views)

Cabin HH

We wanted to keep our costs down so we opted for an obstructed-view outer room, and we were pleasantly surprised at how great it was. Our floor to ceiling window was blocked by a lifeboat, but only about 2/3 of the way up, which still allowed good views and lots of natural light. Note that some other rooms in this class close to the tender lifeboats might be more obstructed though.

I have a history of motion sickness so I picked this room specifically to be on a lower deck at the middle rear of the ship, and that paid off. We felt very little ship motion in this room, and the location below another cabin deck meant there was virtually no noise to speak of other than the occasional discussion in the halls as other guests walked by. I was actually shocked how quiet it was.

Everything in the room was clean and in very good condiiton, and the cleaning team did a great job of keeping it that way. I'm a tall guy (6'5") but had enough room to be comfortable. If you're looking to save some money but still get a nice room, I can't recommend this cabin enough.
