We chose this cruise as a means of chiiling out on what appeared (from reviews) to be a nice ship. The ports were only of a limited interest, as we had already been to 5 of the 7 being visited - and some of those more than twice before.
The staff on this ship are brilliant - from the very personable captain downwards. He made sure that he spoke to everone on board and uniquely (in our experience) was on the gangway on final disembarkation, to wish each and every one of us a "bon voyage".
We took our meals (breakfast and dinner) in the Blu restaurant (which is restricted to Aqua passengers), and as this is not very big, we became a "family"! However, we do not eat red meat or shell-fish so were a little disappointed with what alternatives were on offer when the menus did not suit us.We did eat four times (in our two weeks) in the three speciality restaurants - and all four meals were splendid.
We were pleased that "formal nights" are now less formal, with smart chic being the order of the day. I do enough formal the rest of the year, so like to stop wearing a tux or a suit when on vacation. A handful of passengers dressed formally on these nights but frankly the few men wearing tuxedos looked totally silly and uncomfortable..
We thought that the shops were naff - almost all only selling jewellry and other high-end goods - but no general store stocking the very day items we all need. The shops were empty most of the time, so I can see a change coming in time for our next trip on the Eclipse, booked for September 2019.
The entertainment in the theatre was generally good, with a couple exceptions (such as one singer who was able to wreck every song she sang with her own arrangements. Only about half the audience remained at the end). The other entertainment was varied and very good.
The cabin was a little smaller than we expected (having has suites on our last 3 cruises) but neverthelss was fine, well apointed and everything worked !
There was a good balcony, with easy-chairs for the two us. As usual, a slight overhang from the deck above meant that time spent sitting in sun was limited, but that didn't phase us.
The cabin position was also good, well chosen by us slightly aft of mid-ship. As it was an Aquaclass we were well looked after with canapes every afternoon, fruit, sparkling wine and complimentary bottles of water. We were supplied with the very nice Celebirity Towelling Robes (which is what we use at home having been given complimentaty new ones on our last cruise). And, there was a turndown every evening, with new towels supplied.
Been many times. You need to get out of the downtown port area for this island as it's not very nice. Take a tour, hire a car or use the very good local buses and it would be more enjoyable.
First time. Lovely island and first class tour.View All 224 Island Tour Reviews
Been there more than 20 times
Been before. The post-hurricane devastation is very sad.
Been before. We liked it so much that we had already booked our hotel (the same as last time) for next December and spent the day there.
We have been to Barbados many times, including staying there, so we spent only short time ashore. My rating should put anyone off as for first or second-timers this isald in very interesting. An excursion or car hire is essential.
First time there. The afternoon Island Tour was really good, but the morning Trolley Tour was frankly a waste of money.View All 107 Island Tour Reviews
