We chose this cruise primarily for itinerary which included Cuba and some ports my husband and I had not visited before. We had previously taken a Panama Canal cruise prior to the opening of the new section. Ship and onboard experience was excellent. But ports of call experience was below our expectations. At several locations it appeared we were assigned docking locations that were less than prime which made it very difficult to explore shops or sites on foot just off the dock. We are used to taking a tour in every port, but then also being able to explore on our own near the ship if time allowed. In most of our ports we were not able to do this "right off the ship shopping/exploration" so our port experience was basically limited to the tours. Jamaica was substituted as a port after our Cuba port was changed from Havana to Cienfuegos. We loved Cienfuegos and Cuba but Jamaica was the worst port experience we have had on any cruise. We did take a tour, but our time would have been better spent if we had simply stayed on board in Jamaica.
This was our first experience with Viking.
Embarkation was the best we have EVER had!
Excellent size, location, and amenities
We took 3 different tours. One each day we were there. Each was different.
City tour, nature tour, and history (Bay of Pigs) tour. All were good and the people were friendly and welcoming.
We did the tour of the Banana Plantation here and it was one of the best tours on our entire trip!
We took the 'Colonial Antigua in Depth' tour. The Santa Domingo Hotel was wonderful, but we had virtually no time to explore on our own. We had been to Antigua before and were anxious to go back. We wanted to browse the shops and area on our own. We ended up with only about 10 minutes of free time. This was a disappointment.
