The Turquoise Seas cruise was a delightful break between Thanksgiving and Christmas; we chose it especially because it had two sea days in the itinerary so we could relax, plus we were able to get a really good prices at the time of booking. We had not visited the ports-of-call previously, and Viking's included city tours gave us the opportunity for a no-stress visit. The smaller ship was quiet with mature but not elderly passengers and was just right for a relaxing break. It was an adult cruise for people over 12. Our booking and pre-embarkation experience with Viking was smooth and helpful. Our agent answered questions and helped us as needed. He was readily available both by phone and email. All cabins on Viking Sky are exterior with balconies; the room was clean, spacious, comfortable, and the bathroom was the largest and nicest yet of our cruise experience. All the staff were friendly, kind, and attentive. The food was some of the best yet--fresh, wholesome food attractively presented. We chose the dining room for most meals since a friend traveling with us had limited mobility. Dining room seating is not assigned, which worked most times. However, after an early show, there would be a crush at the dining room and the servers were stretched to provide attentive service. That is really the only negative of the whole trip, and the dinner/show scheduling conflict should be resolved. It was also a little disconcerting to be greeted by name one evening by a server we'd never seen before; they use small hand-held devices with your name, cabin number, and photograph. It was a little spooky the first time it happened; maybe it's done a lot and we had never encountered it before. Another less-than-wonderful experience was tea time on our first sea day. Everyone showed up for tea, so seating was competitive. The quiet afternoon tea was rather noisy and crowded, although the service and tea snacks were fine. We avoided tea time after that, more because of our scheduling than from the crowds. The included city tours were interesting and well-organized. We would have liked more time in Cozumel, but the length of time was about right for the other ports. We caught a beautiful sunset on the tender from Belize City to the ship--best photos of the trip! Viking includes free wifi, wine/beer with meals, city tours in each port, and other items that other lines charge for. There are a number of tours available if desired at reasonable prices. There were several enrichment lectures on Mayan culture, etc., as well as stage shows, the usual information sessions on buying jewelry in duty-free areas, etc., plus a movie on the deck that was lovely (outdoor movie in mid-December--what a treat!) Embarkation and disembarkation were smooth and care-free. We hit a snag trying to check-in at the Miami Airport (long lines with little organization at the cruise off-load area), but that is the airport's fault. The employees were not shy about asking for tips, which was off-putting. We would not hesitate to book another Viking cruise. We do plan to take a river cruise soon, and are looking forward to the great Viking service and itineraries.
