Also a first in many ways, one we almost missed. The chance to sail on a new ship with a new ocean cruise line was a draw. The opportunity to see Cuba at last was reason. The chance to go to Belize as well was a plus. When the Viking Sun told us we wouldn't be docked in Havana and would spend 3 days in Cienfuegos and had to ride a bus for three hours to get to Havana and wouldn't even go to Belize, well, we almost bailed. Glad we didn't. Viking went out of its way to make this experience a good one. About Cuba, I think we got essentially the "party line." But that is okay. We learned much just from listening, knowing history and making our own assessments. The ship and crew are outstanding. There is none of that gotta get your picture taken at every turn. None of that rush to buy buy buy at the last minute sales in the onboard stores. Everything is laid back, quiet, comfortable, simple and adult.
Because so many people did opt to cancel this trip, we were upgraded to a slightly more spacious cabin. It is comparable in size with, say, Celebrity's Concierge or Aqua class cabin but without a very large balcony. The bathrooms, however, are much larger with heated floors.
Controlled exploration of a theater, a cigar factory, a hotel. It was just fine.
