  3. Carnival Vista
1st time on Vista with 20+ prior Carnival cruises.’ Ship: really liked the decor & changes Carnival has made. Very cruise themed beachy feel. Havana area is a nice addition just not enough cabins! Serenity is the largest we’ve experienced but still not enough room for sea days. Spa is smaller than on Magic & noisy while the gym is huge. Ship only seemed crowded on sea days. We especially enjoyed the Atrium Lobby and bar area. Entertainment: IMAX theaters is a great addition; price is very reasonable $9.95 seniors $12.95 for adults and you can bring “anything you want into the theater”. We saw Red Sparrow & Tomb Raider. Live music throughout the ship is very good; choices from one person entertainment to bands to new age strings there is something for all tastes. Main Shows in lounge are not the main strength of entertainment on this ship but enjoyable. The Main Show Lounge is a horrible design. Comedians/Karaoke: comedy shows are 5:30; 6:45 and 9:45 for late and just about always full. All comedians were very entertaining: Derrick Eason; Tim Young; Mike Estime & John McDonnell. Cheeky Charlie the Punchliner lead was the best we have had on any Carnival ship. Karaoke wasn’t as strong on Vista as we have experienced on other Carnival ships. It was held 3 times during the week, twice in the Limelight Lounge and once in Red Frogg Pub; it just didn’t have the turnout we’ve experienced on other cruises. Food: overall very good; Dining Room we ate here several times YTD with check in on deck 5 and the dining room on deck 3 we never had to wait for a table but if you dine later you may wait. Service in the dining room was similar all nites-in and out 60-90 minutes. We had a different wait staff each night we ate in the dining room. Beverage service was lacking but we were not drinking during dinner. Seafood Shack small charge we had lunch here one day lobster roll (Caribbean lobster) was good and shrimp/clam basket. Portions were plentiful and reasonably priced, a nice additional option. Room Service - prompt and a great value we used it every morning for breakfast and a few times for sandwiches-no lines! Red Frogg Pub can’t say enough about this addition great ambiance, great food and very reasonably priced. Pasta Bar tasty lunch selections prompt service, gets crowded if you aren’t there early and you don’t mind listening to the basketball court above you while eating. Guy’s Burgers - has yet to disappoint! Pig & Anchor BBQ ok bbq very popular Fresh Creations Serenity the best salad bar on the ship! Pizza utilizes 3 pizza ovens ILO conveyor process, decent pizza Lido Marketplace ample selections food was hot and plentiful Deli busy and always a line Blue lguana Cantina great breakfast and lunch Java Cafe always a line but best coffee and shakes on the ship be sure and ask for a coffee card! We did not dine at the Steakhouse, JuJi’s, Bonsai Sushi or Cucina del Capitano nor did we experience the Chef’s Table. Cabin: we had a cove balcony midship great location and we love our cove balconies; however if we were to cruise this class of ship again and we could book a Havana inside we would just to have access to the Havana area which is amazing! Staff: the entire staff was amazing, very friendly and always with a smile despite having to deal with some trying people. Our cabin steward and his team were especially good. Guest services never disappointed and always took care of our questions and needs. The staff does an amazing job and they all work long hours. Ports of Call: Grand Turk - we did not get off the ship as we had just been here in January. We were in port 7-2 with a HAL ship and 7000+ people in port is way too many we enjoyed a fairly empty ship! La Romana - walked around the port no excursion booked. Suspect that within a few years this port will be developed similar to Mahogany Bay. Definitely beautiful coastline with lots of waves crashing along the rocks. We were over one hour late departing waiting on people who never made it! Curacao - we had a Carnival Beach Day excursion booked, nice afternoon at the beach, enjoyed the scenic ride to and from the port and the beach was clean and the water was beautiful Aruba - we had a Carnival catamaran sail and snorkel booked and we had an amazing time, 45 fellow cruisers and two snorkel stops and free flowing adult beverages on the way back to the ship, crew was fantastic! Note: the Captain was kind enough to get our port time in Aruba extended one hour for our loss of one hour in Curacao due to our late departure from La Romana Embarkation in Miami needs some work very chaotic and the hand held scanners/computers kept going down and the crowds are managing the workers ILO the other way around. Miami could take a lesson from Port Canaveral. Debarkation we did self debarkation platinum off the ship and in the car driving home by 7:30 am, Carnival excelled on debarkation however Customs was another story, the agents were not even at work yet and we had to wait and wait and finally two customs agents for all those cruisers is not sufficient!

Cabin Review

Cove Balcony
Cabin 7C 2358
Excellent location mid ship right around the corner from the mid ship elevators and a brief walk to either the forward or aft elevators. We choose mid ship and we enjoy the open air cove balconies and this one did not disappoint. The decor in Vista cabins is very cruise like. Bed was a bit hard for our liking and we brought our own My Pillows! Great cabin great cabin steward team wouldn't hesitate to sail in this cabin again.

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

  • Snorkeling
We opted to sail and snorkel via catamaran thru Carnival and we enjoyed this excursion immensely. The crew were amazing. 45 fellow cruisers, so we were not over crowded. We had two snorkel stops with lots of fish at both locations. The 2nd stop was at a wreck and the fish were amazing! We had a great time on this excursion and when we returned to the dock people were wanting to pay to go again!

  • Beach
Enjoyed a scenic ride to and from the port to a nearby beach where we spent several hours enjoying the heat of the day and the beautiful blue waters! A few too many people as this was not an exclusive excursion we were on a beach at a resort. For the price we paid we were pleased with our afternoon on the beach.
