My wife and I very much enjoyed our five night cruise with our 14 year old son and 13 year old daughter over spring break March 2018. Plenty of activities and entertainment for everyone. Highlights included the ice show and ice skating, the Flowrider, Grease musical, and comedians. Food was good. Windjammer exceeded expectations and Chops Grill was fantastic. Main dining room wasn't as string as past cruise vacations. Food was somewhat bland and menu was very repetitive. At port in Costa Maya we loved the Lost Mayan Kingdom waterpark and zip lines. The ship itself was very clean and our cabin was well maintained. The housekeeping/cabin steward was excellent. The shopping on board was rather unappealing; very little Royal Caribbean or ship-specific merchandise. The duty free stores were nothing special as the merchandise and prices were not any better than home. The zoom internet package was very poor quality. Overall, we had a great family trip.

Very good family cruise

Cabin Review

Cabin 8376
Very adequate cabin for our family of four. King bed was plenty big enough for wife and I. Kids shared the pullout sofa bed. Cabin steward/housekeeping was excellent. Room had much more storage space than expected. Balcony was large enjoyable. Bathroom was adequate. Not very many electrical outlets. I was glad we had brought a small plug-in power strip. TV was outdated and reception was poor, even for cruise ship shows and functions. Would recommend this cabin to others.

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

  • Costa Maya
Went to Lost Mayan Kingdom zipline and waterpark. This review focuses on the waterpark. We had a wonderful day. Park was very nice and had super facilities. One of the nicest waterparks we have been to. Not quite as elaborate theming as a Disney waterpark, but far superior than a standard US waterpark. You took an elevator to the top of most slides, which was very nice! Staff was very friendly. Wife (44), Me(43), Son(14) and Daughter (13) all has a great time. Excellent staff that was very friendly and helpful. Very nice facilities and very nice equipment. Before we went, I was a little confused on pricing. Basically, you can pay for the zipline courses by itself or you can pay for the waterpark by itself. You can also pay for a single pass (wristband) for both. We did both and really enjoyed each of them. This was a big highlight of the trip. The pictures you could purchase were also very reasonable. Much less expensive than the cruise ship pictures or pictures from other excursions. This was a great excursion and would highly recommend. We both enjoyed it equally as the teenage kids.

Went to Lost Mayan Kingdom zipline and waterpark. We had a wonderful day. This review focuses on the ziplines. Wife had never ziplined before and I haven’t ziplined in probably 20 years. We both enjoyed it equally as the teenage kids.

  • Dolphin Swim & Encounter
Went to Dolphinaris for the dolphin swim/ride program. Wife (44), Me(43), Son(14) and Daughter (13) all had a great time. Once in a lifetime type experience. The facility was very nice and the program was very organized. Our trainer was excellent. We were placed in a group with four other participants, which made our group eight total people. The session/program lasted a full 40 minutes in the water with two dolphins and the trainer. Everyone got to participate in all the activities. Everyone on our family enjoyed it very much and this was a big highlight of the trip. The food and dining facilities were also very nice. Only negative was the ridiculous pictures afterward. During the dolphin experience, the staff takes numerous pictures and movies that you can inevitably purchase in the gift shop. The prices are outrageous and insulting especially after what it already cost to participate and, yes, there is a hard sell. The prices eventually decrease has they haggle with you; “a special offer just this one time for you.” But the prices are still ridiculous (more than Disney and way more than a cruise ship). People from our cruise all bought different things and all paid different prices. The process was upsetting and almost ruined an otherwise very special day. If we every decided to do this again, my wife and I would just let the kids participate and we would watch (and take pictures) from the observation area. Many other families were doing this. While my wife and I both enjoyed the experience, we didn’t know that you could just watch the kids and enjoy the facilities (we thought everyone had to participate).
