  3. Golden Princess
Sailing out of Melbourne is great, no plane trips to Sydney. The embarkation area is old and could do with another upgrade. They try to spread passenger loading over a period of a couple of hours but nobody seems to take any notice. This area is not designed to handle large numbers of passengers and anything bigger than the Golden Princess would be a nightmare. The Captain did divert into Sydney to off load two ill passengers and with the age group on board, this type of incident should not be unexpected. Many passengers were elderly but that means they can cruise as many would not be able to fly even within Australia. This applies to Brisbane, as well as Sydney, this is the age group that can enjoy a holiday and have the money to do so and don't feel welcome or comfortable on the "party" ships. I could not fault the crew, they were friendly, helpful and service excellent. The food in the dinning room was excellent and being on a special and somewhat difficult diet they went out of there way to make sure I was well catered for with even a special desert made. The ship is looking tired but is off to Singapore for an upgrade and refit and will return next summer looking much healthy. The choice of ships departing from Melbourne is not huge but I can say from experience the "Golden" is definitely one of the best. The islands were beautiful, sea warm and a lovely turquoise blue. Due to the Sydney stop we didn't make Lugenville and went to Mare instead which I much preferred and no shortage of tenders used, up to six at a time but docking on these island sometimes only allow a maximum of two at a time so patience is required. This is my sixth cruise on Golden Princess and 28th on Princess ships.

Lovely islands and thoughtful Captain
