We have only travelled with P&O before and have been very happy with the 4 star standard provided but for my 65th birthday we decided to travel 5 star and found a Celebrity cruise sailing from New Zealand to Australia. We were very disappointed as the Solstice was no better than the P&O ships and in many aspects fell well short of the P&O standard. The quality of the food was reasonable but some of the dishes were very meagre which resulted in some passengers ordering three starters at a time and the dishes on the menus were quite repetitive. The entertainment was quite poor. On one evening many of the audience walked out of the theatre and the next day the Cruise Director made a public apology for the poor quality of the act. The following evening the performance was cancelled after 5 minutes because of a stage malfunction. The entertainment on P&O was far superior. Celebrity seem to be cost cutting all the time from the cheap toilet paper to the meagre portions at meal time. But the worst aspect of the cruise was the constant drive to sell packages whether for drinks or specialty restaurants. They start the moment you step foot on the ship and it continues throughout the cruise. They appear at every large gathering of guests, outside the restaurants and on several occasions in the restaurant whilst eating your meal which I found particularly offensive. Celebrity are all about profit not customer service. The Celebrity Solstice does not provide a 5 star service unless you pay mega bucks for all the "extras". I definitely would not recommend Celebrity Cruises.
