We did a 2 night pre-cruise stay at the Embassy Suites in Ft. Lauderdale. Checking in at the front desk went quick, thanks to Kathleen. Our room was clean (no black mold as reported by previous guests) and comfortable. Enjoyed the free breakfast and the 5 o'clock cocktail hour. We also enjoyed walking around the shops behind the hotel and was able to purchase 2 bottles of wine to bring aboard. Chose the hotel's offer of transfer to the ship ($8.00 pp), arrived about 10:45. We boarded about 45 minutes after arrival, all went smoothly. The Eurodam is a beautiful ship, did miss an atrium in the center though. Our room (7022) was adequate, although it lacked drawer space. Our cabin steward Dika was very pleasant and helpful. There were many choices of movies on TV which we enjoyed after a full day of fun. We also enjoyed attending the America's Test Kitchen talks on sea days followed by TV segments. There weren't too many choices of what to do on sea days, found it rather boring. The dining on the ship was not up to standards. Choices on menu always sounded good but when food arrived, one would say "what is this?" Too many nights rice was served in lieu of potatoes and veggies were rare. One night I had a sliver of dried fish plopped on top of a pile of rice with 2 2"pieces of carrots next to it. We missed jumbo shrimp cocktail, a bunch of mini shrimp in a glass dish is not acceptable. Pork belly was served many times in DR and Lido - missed a real turkey dinner. After several disappointments in DR we chose go to Lido and choose what we were eating. Desserts were just OK, not HAL quality. Why would they cut 2 blueberries in half and add them to the dessert? Strawberries and raspberries were also chopped in half and put on dessert plates! All in all, we were disappointed in quality of food - definitely not our normal cruise experience. We have over 450 days of cruising with various lines and found this trip rather disappointing. We did however like having coffee and a few pastries brought to our cabin in the morning while waiting for our travel mates to awaken. Service was always on time and friendly. Being we have been to the Caribbean many times, did not take any excursions. Just walked around ports, enjoying the sun. Did go to the casino often but as on other ships, payout was not there. Enjoyed a comedian and great magician in the show room. The 2 piano/singers in the billboard were great, although passengers removed chairs from casino to listen to the music, or sat at slot machines, not allowing fellow passengers to play the machine they wanted. Being we were on a B2B cruise, immigration allowed us to stay on ship, gathered us in showroom, checked out and back in, without leaving ship - great improvement, especially for the handicapped . Disembarkation was very quick, was off the ship by 8:45 and off the airport and on our way home. All in all, we will hesitate to book another HAL ship unless quality of food changes.

Very Disappointed with HAL

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean-View Verandah Stateroom
Cabin VE 7022
Cabin was kept very clean thanks to Dika. We had the balcony opened up so we could enjoy our friends we travelled with conversations and laughs. We had 2 chairs with foot rests and 1 table, comfortable.
