We spent many months planning and saving for our Hawaiian 7-day cruise to find out 10 days prior, the cruise was cut short for a 'technical inspection'. How you can have only a 2-week notice of a 'required' technical inspection is hog wash. Instead the last day was at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in an average room and you still had to pay for the hotel 'resort fee' and meals. We were hustled off of the ship at 7:45 AM but couldn't check into our room until 3:00 PM. All day, hurry up and wait. Paying all this money to stand in lines and be herded around like cattle was absurd. I'm sure there will be plenty of other reviews of the March sailing -- they are as bad as they say.

Despite NCL not being forthcoming, the crew was always nice and friendly. Drinks are very expensive, so be prepared. We did a dinner package at La Cucina (Italian) 3 nights because of the reviews but it turns out they do not change their menu. Moderno (Brazilian) was great -- lot's of meat. Has the best and most diverse salad bar on the ship. Do two nights here. Skyline and Liberty were okay -- nothing to write home about.

Avoid using NCL for your shore excursions. Lines are crowed on board and since our schedule was changed, rescheduling 2000+ peoples' excursions was painful. Search Hawaii ship excursions and you'll be fine. All excursions come to the port and are very glad to see you.

Kauai

Kauai, we rented a car. Do yourself a favor and reserve your car ahead of time. Each rental car company has their own shuttle going to the pier every 15 ~ 30 minutes. You can park the car over night at the ABC store about 4 blocks away. You have to do the brunch a the Grand Hyatt in Poipu. Of course, you also need to do Waimea Canyon and Wailua Falls. You will dread doing a tour bus for Waimea and they can't go to Wailua Falls. Spouting Horn is fun. The cruise will sail past Na Pali coast which is absolutely stunning. Get you seat early on the 13th deck, port side.
