We booked this cruise at the last minute (well last minute for us, about 5 weeks prior to sailing). We needed a family getaway for the three of us - myself, DH, and DD (20). Two of us were locked into a university spring break schedule.
We are fairly frequent cruisers and have sailed on most of the major cruise lines, although our last cruise was five years ago. We wanted an NYC departure, the competition was already sold out or lacked dates that worked for us, so this was the default choice. We originally were going to book a mini-suite at a great price, but then the Courtyard Penthouse showed up as an option and the more we thought about it being spring break the more willing we were to spend the extra money for the Haven.
Room: The room was good for the three of us, although not as large as suites on other cruise lines where we have sailed in a suite category. But this was fine with us, because the Haven area on this ship is fabulous. In fact, we spent most of the cruise on the upper deck of the Haven either under the dome when it was too cold to be on the sundeck, or on the sundeck when we could handle the weather. Most of the time there were plenty of empty lounge chairs available as long as we weren't particularly picky about where we sat, and the kids that were there were generally well-behaved. When they (or their parents) weren't quite as considerate of others as they probably should be, staff seemed to take care of that fairly quickly.
Perfect room location. Nearer midship than most of the Haven cabins, and right by the shortcut to the spa and the stairs that lead up to the main Haven area. No significant noise except on the last night when the cabin next to us was packing up and kept slamming drawers.
We've been to Nassau several times and find that taking a walking tour is one of the best ways to see this port and get to meet some of the locals. Recommend the art museum in particular.
