This is my 3rd cruise, 1st on NCL (2 prior on Carnival).
NCL is far and away a much more elevated experience than Carnival. Freestyle cruising allows for flexibility that I really enjoyed. I cruised in a group of 7, we had 3 mini-suites and all had the Ultimate Beverage Package and the Dining Package with 3 meals in the premium restaurants.
Food --- I never had a bad meal on board -- the Brazilian steakhouse, Cagney's and the Teppanyaki restaurant were all great! Wonderful service and good food. It's obvious these restaurants are really just to provide different dining experiences rather than a wide variety of food, it was all pretty much the same at the end of the day. We ate in the Summer Palace 2 times and the food was great there as well (except the grouper was really tilapia, but hey it was still delicious). We met the Executive Sous Chef Ian and he was so kind and friendly and gave us great suggestions. He sent little chocolates to our room one day for a very personalized touch. Thanks Ian!
Tight squeeze for 3 adults but adequate enough for a short cruise. If you were on a longer cruise might be problematic. There is a nice overhang from the deck above so if it is raining you can still be out on the balcony and not get soaked. 1 level below the gym (like, literally walk up the stairs to get there) and 1 level below the main pool deck, so very conveniently located.
