We chose to fly into FLL as it was the cheapest flights into Florida from Vermont that days we needed to fly. We stayed with friends so I can't speak to hotels in Miami. I will say we did experience heavy traffic, I am used to Boston Traffic and at times it was worse then 128 on a bad day, plan accordingly.
Embarkation:
Assigned check in times were checked at the door. There were three NCL ships in so it was nothing short of organized chaos outside Terminal "C" with all those coming and going. However, it was well managed and we were in the building at 9:45am for our 9:30am check in window. In the end after speaking with some of the security folks there is still some port/lot damage from the hurricanes this past summer that is limiting some of the normal traffic patterns. First time in POM so I can't tell you what those limits are, all I can say is they worked hard and made it easy for everyone that I saw. We literally walked through security as it had just opened and walked to check in. After some minor delays due to faulty equipment (or operator error) we were checked in and heading up stairs. We had a party member with a scooter and the elevator was in use with departing passengers so they were going to have to wait down stairs until all were off the elevator, seemed strange to me as the elevator had to go back up empty but....in the end I was able to manhandle the scooter onto the escalator and up we went. We were called to board at 11:30am. For those wondering, assisted boarding happened with all VIP boarding and went amazingly quick. We were seated in O'Sheehan's for lunch by noon. Lunch there was typical O'Sheehans, came out quick and was pretty good.
