I have delayed writing this review as I had complained to TUI about our experience on this ship over New Year and I was waiting to see how they would react. As the title suggests, this was a special 60th birthday celebration and our first ever cruise. We specifically chose the Dream due to the reviews, the cruise locations and hoping that this would be the first of many cruises.
The cabin was fine till we were flooded from the shower/toilet and ended up with a dehumidifier which gave off the most disgusting smell. After speaking to our neighbours, it appears flooding was a common complaint on board. We were given £50 off our final bill as compensation for the inconvenience.
The ports of call were fine and weather was very good. The New Year stop at Madeira was particularly memorable. However after a couple of days on board, between the poor quality, cold food and the extremely poor entertainment, I was wishing we could just stay in Lanzarote at a Hotel and not go back to the ship. However we had spend close to £3000 on this cruise and decided to stick it out.
We were not unhappy with our cabin until the bathroom flooded and all the water cascaded into our room. We were given a dehumidifier to dry it out which smelt even worse than the flood. We were given a £50 compensation voucher for this off of our final bill.
Madiera was by far the highlight of this cruise. The fireworks display was excellent and we spent the day strolling around the lovely streets and had a beautiful lunch. We will visit Madeira again, but certainly not with The Marella Dream.
