We chose this cruise because of the exotic destination and the fact that January, weather wise, is the best time to go. That made our decision to sail on the Constellation an easy choice. A real drawback was having to get Indian Visas. Electronic ones do not cover the cruise so we had to apply for regular visas. It was expensive, and it was an ordeal. When Celebrity dropped one of the ports in India and cut it to three ports, I was very disappointed. Usually getting visas are easy, not so for India. Now I wish I had paid for a 10-year visa to make sure I never have to do that again!
This was our first Celebrity cruise. We have sailed with several other cruise lines, but the last 4 cruises were with NCL on similar sized ships. All in all, it was a great cruise on the Constellation. There are things I preferred on NCL and some things on the Connie I liked better. I would travel either cruise line again giving preference to the one with the best destination and then the best price.
I thought the food on the Constellation was very good. It was difficult to get my head around the fact that there is only one main dining room included in the price and only three specialty restaurants. As good as the food was in the main dining room, it is very noisy and I longer for somewhere quieter. We tried Qsine one evening. It is an additional $50 per person. For me, I found it a very confusing format. Anyone that has dined there knows what I mean. It is something to do once, but once was enough. Food in test tubes was just weird.
This was the only ship tour we took and I am so glad we did. It was a train ride to the elephant orphanage in Pinnawals. It included lunch. This was such a highlight of the trip for me. The train was an unique experience and such a comfortable way to travel. Seeing the elephants bathe, have dust baths and being bottled fed was amazing. The return back to the ship was by coach. That was a long ride but was broken up by a bathroom break.
We did a private taxi tour to a temple, the Big Buddah and made a stop at a fishing village. Because it was a taxi there was not much in the way of commentary. However, it is so much nicer to go with a small group of people in a van instead of a big bus.
