This was my first cruise at 73 years old. So I do not have anything to compare to. Overall I enjoyed the cruise. The Star was very clean and well appointed. Service varied, my room steward was fantastic, service in some of the restaurants was spotty. I must say that one thing that really annoys me is to read a company’s promotional material on what they have to offer and then find that it does not exist. NCL advertises on their website under the Norwegian Star that, O’Sheehan’s , their Irish Pub has no Irish Ales or Beers. Also their description that it serves specialties such as Prime Rib and all you can eat Ribs was a flat out lie. We inquired for the whole two weeks when they would have Prime Rib or all you could eat Ribs and they were never available. The two main restaurants Aqua and Versailles both had problems. Aqua could not get a steak cooked correctly. No matter what you ordered you got well done. Versailles offered a cheese cake that was some form of lemon Jello with no cheese at all. I have never had a cheese cake that shimmed. They had daily specials in some of the restraints but it was hard to find out what they were. Every Day they published a newsletter, not sure why they did not mention them there. The boarding in LA was terrible. We had to stand in line for 1 ½ hours to get to the registration counter. There were hundreds of chairs where we could have sat and waited out turn if they simply had a number system. Also there were issues with their tours. Seems like they should have some staff take these tours and get them organized properly, or not offer them. One tour specifically went to a volcano. There was a substantial hike involved and there was substantial dust and silica stirred up into the air where a number of folks got sick.. There was no provision for simple masks to protect the tour from breathing the hazardous dust. They put on a program about buying Emeralds before we docked in Cartagena. They even published in their daily newsletter, shops they recommended for purchasing emeralds. The Tour we took, went right past them and refused to stop but took us to a small shop in a market place that was filled with mostly pottery, tee shirts etc., with some emerald jewelry in the back which seemed to be of very low quality.

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Balcony

Cabin BA

Cabin was comfortable and well appointed. I seemed strange that there were no electrical outlets net to the night stand. For people that use CPAP machines this means you must take 1 or 2 extension cords and drape them across the floor creating a tripping hazard at night. I had a balcony stateroom. There were rust areas on the Balcony. The shower had a problem delivering cold water to lower the temperature of the hot water. It took several days to get that fixed. When we encountered rough seas after passing through the Canal the drawers in my room kept opening and closing all night long. My room steward was FANTASTIC, I could not have had better service. A great ambassador for NCL.
