As platinum members with Regent Seven Seas we have enjoyed many cruises on their 3 other ships. Our first experience with the Explorer, on this cruise, was so way over the top luxurious and classy, its in a class by itself.
Embarkment - The port changed terminals but guests were not told so we had to find the Explorer. The eventual terminal was poorly staffed and disorganized. They even had us guests standing out in the rain, instead of organizing the scanners further back in the terminal. Not Regents fault but management should insure with the cruise port in Miami not treat their guests so shabbily.
The ship - No expense was spared in creating such a beautiful and luxurious ship. On first boarding you see the loving details of this ship. All public rooms are spacious and well appointed.
Dining - From the main dining room, specialty dining rooms and the buffet you will get wonderful meals and great attentive staff. We loved all the venues but fell in love with the Asian dining room.
Stateroom - We booked an F1 stateroom, and just like all the other Regent ships, the stateroom was roomy, large walk in closet, huge bathroom and larger balcony. All decorated beautifully.
Excursions - After last year's hurricane, ports were removed from the itinerary and some folks were disappointed but we had been to all the ports on the itinerary and truly wanted to enjoy our first cruise with the Explorer treating the ship like our own private yacht. We went into each port on our own but for the most part enjoyed the pool area and public rooms.
Entertainment - Sadly, Regent has become like so many other cruise companies and provide mediocre in-house entertainment at best. Specialty one night acts are rare. For the price of the cruise you would expect top notch entertainment but sadly, no. We certainly don't enjoy cruising because of the nightly shows. But it would be nice once in a while to have a wow show.
Enrichment - What happened on this cruise? So many sea days a truly lousy speakers or lack thereof. Again, poor lecturers are becoming the norm.
Overall - We want to sail on the Explorer again and again. The few negative comments here have nothing to do with our wonderful first experience on the Explorer and will no deter us from enjoying the Explorer or her sister ships in the future.
