We've done a river cruise with Viking and decided to try their relatively new ocean cruise line. We have traveled extensively with the larger cruise lines and found this to be so much more relaxing and attentive.
The food was outstanding; the staff was extremely friendly, accommodating and always smiling. With the included shore excursions wi-if, drinks, excellent entertainment, and smooth transitions to get on shore and return to ship, you are hassle free. In one port we were docked next to one of the behemoth cruise ships, and we felt like we were getting onboard our own yacht.
Of note regarding the entertainment, there is no casino on board which was fine with us. Also, there is no huge theater production, just a small stage with young enthusiastic good voices singing their hearts out for you. Do not expect a loud music filled pool scene; instead it is quiet and reserved with people sitting around reading and conversing. Pre dinner music is classical or flamenco guitar in the atrium by the Explorer Bar where we enjoyed our cocktails with friends we made the first day. By the way, the silver drink package is well worth it if you enjoy good wine and cocktails. The nightclub is small with a good band and vocalists for dancing; no disco balls here. If you're looking for a more raucous type of entertainment, then this is not for you.
The cabin was clean, comfortable and well taken care of each day. The room is smaller than other cabins we have had, but still fine. I only wish there were more drawers or shelves, perhaps around the bed as in other cabins, for storage. The amenities provided are plentiful. The shower was roomy and the heated floors a plus. The veranda with two chairs and a table added to the ambiance and relaxation.
