We had cruised previously with NCL so decided to mark my husbands 60th birthday with a Carribean cruise. Booked early as NCL encourage you to do, picked our rooms, paid for drinks and meal packages and looked forward to it for months. We were to fly to JFK New York on 4th January, this was the day the "snow bomb" hit the east coast of America. We flew out with Delta who were fantastic. We were diverted to Detroit for the night then flew to New York the next day. They treated us really well.

We received an e mail informing us that because of the severe weather the ship would sail a day late, although we had missed our night in New York we understood that no one controls the weather. We had paid for transfers from the airport to the port and assumed as we had booked it all through NCL the transfer would be waiting a day later for us, it wasn't. JFK was chaotic and the line for a cab was about three hours long. A very kind lady at the information desk allowed me to use her phone and I called NCL customer service. I was on that call for forty minutes only to be told that there was nothing she could do to help us, there was no transfer and we were on our own. Again our kind lady suggested a private cab number and we paid $120 to get to the port. It was -15 outside, we didn't know where we were or where we were going, thanks NCL. Then the fun really began, at the port we handed over our luggage and entered the embarkation building, it was awful. Tanoy announcements were barked out, there wasn't enough seating, the staff were horrible and it took more than four hours for us to get into the line to board. Nobody smiled, no welcome, computers were crashing, it felt like we were a huge inconvenience to them and after travelling for 24 hours it was not the welcome we hoped for.

STATEROOM . We were on 14th floor with a very small balcony, there was thick ice on the inside of the balcony doors and the carpet was wet. However we do like to enjoy ourselves so made the most of it and headed out to get something to eat. The carpets in the corridors were also wet and there was a smell in the air. Large driers were on most of the time. Down on 7th floor it was extremely busy and noisy but we managed to get a meal and a few drinks and started to relax.

Mid-Ship Balcony Stateroom

Cabin BA

Frederick was our cabin steward and he was a gem. He looked after us very well and seemed to be around 24/7. Our cabin was clean and pleasant apart from the ice and the wet carpet.
