We did the Grand European Tour with two other couples who are family. We wanted an adventure such as none of us had ever had and Viking met, and exceeded, what we were hoping for. We are experienced ocean cruisers but this was our first river cruise. We chose Viking based on the recommendation of other family members and we were anything but disappointed. The level of service is without flaw - they thought of everything and anticipated everything. Our cabin, while smaller than cabins on an ocean cruise, was so well laid out and appointed. Heated floor in the bathroom.... heaven.

The excursions, that are included in every port, were simply outstanding. Our tour guides were all local and we learned so much about the history and culture of the ports that we visited. They were all wonderful. In some ports local talent and lecturers were brought on board in the evening, which was wonderful.

The river cruise ships are lacking many of the "bells and whistles" of ocean cruise lines, such as shows, casinos, pesky photographers, games, etc. But there was a beautiful lounge on our ship with a great duo who played every night so it was a pleasant surprise to find that we could dance on the ship.
