  3. Viking Sky
We chose this cruise around the Caribbean sea because it matched up with our wedding date/time off for a honeymoon. We had a nice time, even though we were the youngest on the cruise by about 40 years. We did not take our teenage daughter, even if we had wanted to because on the ocean cruises your child must be over the age of 18. The food was top notch, impeccable. The quality and the amenities were above par, the ports and excursions are the reason this review got 4 stars. The excursions were not great, and the ports of call were not what we expected either. I cannot fault Viking Sky for the terrible weather conditions or the fact that we missed our trip to Bermuda because someone broke their hip- my husband enjoyed watching the coast guard helicopter come to pick up the passenger right outside our window. Entertainment was probably good, but we missed the window of enjoyment by about 50 years. There's only so much ABBA one can take while being on a ship for 15 days. We liked the cabin, the bed was very comfortable, and the movie selection was pretty awesome. Do not go on this cruise if you want to gamble, excessively drink, or go swimming. Also, be prepared for a lot of culture, history, and enrichment lectures. The shore excursions were really bad. They did not give us good information, and we had no idea that we would never go on the beach except for Grand Cayman where our tour driver let us out to dip our feet in the water. Jamaica had a good 4x4 excursion- but you pay extra. Snorkeling in St. Kitts was uneventful and not worth the money we paid for that one. I felt like we were going to get mugged in St. Lucia, but it was okay because the tour guide was nice.We missed Bermuda completely from the weather, and Aruba took us around the desert and Curacao took us to an Oil Rig after a 2 hour walking tour that didn't show us much. There are NO water excursions- at all. No leisure trips to the beach, no fun zone for that. We also enjoyed the inclusive room service, and turn down service. We also treated ourselves to the spa, and we both had massages. They were quite enjoyable, and the masseuse knew exactly what they were doing. We also enjoyed Manfredi's twice, and my husband almost cried when he ate their signature steak. It was a very nice cruise for our honeymoon, and we booked a river cruise for December down the Rhine with our entire family. Our daughter can go on this one because she is over 12. Overall, it's worth it if you go with the 2 for 1 discount. Any other way I would have felt cheated- and even with the 2 for 1 it is very expensive. We plan to do the cruising again- not to the Caribbean, but to the other countries they offer around the world. We liked being the youngest, and we received a lot of attention. Everyone was nice and there were only 600 passengers on board, so we got a lot of care and nothing on the boat was ever busy.

It was a nice cruise- BUT

Cabin Review

Cabin 3642?
The room was rather spacious with a closet. The bathroom was elegantly designed. Small, but comfortable. We had two chairs and a desk in room. We also had the drink service because we paid for D category. I would say that was worth it. Turn down is twice a day, and your steward is good about making sure passengers are kept abreast of activities. The wall mounted flat screen TV was very nice, and the movie selection was top notch.

  • Island Tour
We were so sunburned we just stayed on the bus. They took us to the natural bridge which was broken, and you had to pay 1.00 to use the restroom. We saw an old church. We saw a desert where they did stations of the cross. We never saw the ocean or got to play at the beach.

They didn't tell us that we would be walking in 90+ degrees and humidity in Curacao. Then it rained. Then we all got sunburned when the bus showed up almost an hour late, then it took us to an oil rig. My husband and I were disgusted. It was terrible.

Okay, this is a typical tourist trap. Not worth going there because there's a gift shop and they push you to buy and not much else.

The driver let us go to the water by the governor's mansion. That was the highlight of Grand Cayman. The other was that it was rushed and we bought some booze and rum cake. We were taken around a metropolitan area where the chickens run wild.

We went to the turtle farm. I was not impressed. I didn't go to the Caribbean to see some turtles.

This was a good one. We paid out of pocket for it, but they took us and 2 other couples to a private drive on the side of the mountain. We went to a fountain of youth through orange groves. Don't let viking lie to you. Wear or bring flip flops so you can get in the water. Hubby wore hiking boots and the driver loaned him his own crocs, and I went in with my socks and shoes. The trip was nice and we enjoyed the jerk chicken and red stripe outside. We really liked that excursion. We did not like Viking not telling us how to dress, and appropriate stuff to wear.

It was a nice ride around. We had about 10 other couples onboard with us. They kept the alcohol flowing, and we had a simple lunch onboard.

  • Snorkeling
We barely saw any fish, and we had trouble navigating with the snorkel. If you wear glasses, bring your own snorkel that allows to fit over your glasses, my husband said all he saw were blobs in water.

That island area we went through was frightening and not tourist friendly. They took us to a private house and let us walk through a botanical garden. It was boring, and we didn't really have fun there. Gift shops were good here though.
