I chose Carnival Valor for the convenience of sailing out of Galveston, TX for an all girls' getaway. Embarkation went as smoothly as any cruise I have been on (I've been on several.) Once I figured out forward and aft and learned which decks didn't have access from one end to the other getting around was fairly easy. There seemed to always be long waits for the elevators. There were four of us ranging in age from 53 to 74 with different likes and interest in varying activities. My roommate and I had a balcony stateroom; the other two were in an interior stateroom a few doors down the hall. We each enjoyed our spa experiences. Our room steward was Hamid who did a great job keeping our rooms cleaned at the requested time. We ate in the Washington Dining Room each evening and found the food good with plenty of options. The only negative is I found the entertainment mediocre. Even though we are all adults we opted to go to the Dr. Seuss Green Eggs and Ham breakfast which was delightful and worth the extra $5 each. Heavy, dense fog kept us out in the gulf for a few hours the morning we were to arrive back in Galveston. Frankie, the cruise director and the crew did their very best to keep everyone comfortable and entertained. I was very impressed with the entire crew that day. Of course there had to be a few guests who were needlessly bent out of shape. None of us mere mortals can control Mother Nature. Disembarkation went smoothly once we were cleared. We also want to highly recommend the Discover Mexico excursion in Cozumel; best bargain tour ever! Our tour guide Gianlucca was fantastic. The VIP beach excursion in Progreso was okay but would not repeat even though Alejandro was an excellent guide. I look forward to my next Carnival Valor cruise in December, 2018.
