We chose this cruise for our anniversary and to see Cuba. We booked before the rules were toughened and were allowed to tour independently no through a mandatory ship tour. We booked with Havana Vintage Car tours and were not disappointed. It was far less than the ship's similar tour and gave you more. They substituted a synagogue tour for the church tour at our request. They also went to a car repair garage and a private home to fulfill the person to person touring requirement.
The ship is a bit old, but typical Holland America. we like it because it is laid back without a lot of "in your face" sales or shipboard activities. Some passengers found that a shortcoming. Food was well prepared and presented, however some meals lacked any fancy or pricey type choices, offering options like turkey, cod, or pot roast. Formal night brought out filet and lobster. The cast show was above average especially for a small ensable.
Service was excellent throughout the ship and the salad bar (not self service) was the best I have seen with options like blackened tuna to top the generous selection of veggies.
The cabin was decent size AND featured a full bathtub so there was plenty of room to shower. Full bed, couch and plenty of closets/drawers. No refrigerator unless you paid extra, but plenty of ice if you request it.
After reviewing numerous crime warnings and having been there before, we took a taxi to a small mall with inflated prices that they give you 50% off and then to Hard Rock Hotel near the port for a good bar and internet.
