NCL Spirit is lovely but a little on the old side when compared with newer ships. We sailed on her last year and enjoyed it then too so unless you are looking for a new megaship then the Spirit is fine.
The crew and staff were excellent, the best we have encountered on a cruise. Food was great but we did dine a lot in the specialty restaurants as opposed to the buffet and main dining.
We had a great itinerary around the Canary islands but the weather was not so good this year but thats not NCL's fault of course.
Cabin Review
Aft-Facing Penthouse with Large Balcony
Larger than expected. I measured it at 22ft by 22ft. and the baclony being 22ft long by 3.5ft wide. Large comfy bed in its own room. Big bathroom with walk in shower and Jacuzzi bath.
Excellent nespresso style coffee machine in dining/lounge area. TV in lounge area was a bit poor, but one in bedroom was fine.
Some of the plating coming off the taps and fitting from age.
Beware though that with a cabin like this you may well end up spending a lot more time in it instead of getting out and about on the ship. Its very nice and comfy.

Barcelona
Lovely city I have been to many times before.
Spent 4 nights here before the cruise.
Took a tour up to Montserrat using Barcelona Day Tours which also took in Park Guell and other sights. Very good indeed.
Madeira (Funchal)
Arrived in port and walked off and into Funchal city. No need for a bus. City is lovely to just stroll around and enjoy with plenty of bars and restaurants to sit in and enjoy. A nice quiet day out.
Alicante
Took a tour up to Gudalest which was very good. Lovely views from the castle/village at the top.
