Norwegian Spirit Cruise Review by Lindypops
- Sail Date: February 2018
- Destination: Mediterranean
- Cabin Type: Mid-Ship Oceanview Picture Window
The Spirit is an old ship and it shows in many places . We had an outside picture window on deck 5 midship which was small but good enough. We bid for a balcony but where not successful, having talked to other people who got the upgrade paying less than we bid we assume we did not get ours because we were first time cruisers with NCL.
There are lots of scratches and scuffs especially in the tiny bathrooms and public toilets. They are obviously having serious problems with the sewerage as the smell in the corridors and some of the public toilets was sometimes terrible. We had men working in the roof outside our corridor for 4 nights .
Hairdryer in bathroom was useless , take your own.
We had some high seas especially during the night and the wardrobe doors did not lock closed so we had to wedge them to stop them sliding together.
No coffee makers in cabin, we took a kettle which was confiscated. We had room service on the first day they brought 2 small cups and a small can of the worst coffee I have ever tasted. The coffee in the buffet was also terrible. We kept the coffee can and went for hot water every morning, using our own coffee.
Spanish VAT being added to all bills ? We have done cruises in this area and have never been charged this. How does NCL reconcile this and is it passed on to the Spanish revenue service? Sounds like a money making scheme for NCL.
Spirit does not an indoor pool area which would have been nice during the poor weather .
Bar and room staff were excellent ,they are worked very hard but always have a smile .
Food was better than expected . Raffles buffet was always very busy and it was hard to get a table sometimes . With the weather being so bad large groups of mainly far eastern guests stayed in the buffet talking.
Entertainment in the theatre was good, singers and dancers were excellent and we enjoyed most of the speciality acts. Why don't they put a show on during the day on sea days ? On the sea days there was not really much to do most people sat in the bars reading.
We would consider NCL again but a newer ship.

Wardrobe doors do not lock closed so slide in bad weather.
Smell of sewerage some days.
When beds are pushed together it is not easy to sit up in bed as they are immediately infront of the window.
