Boarding on/off: I had a 3PM boarding time, but turned up with my bags at 11AM and was allowed to board straight away. The process is really streamlined and took about 45 minutes. Disembarking the ship was the same, and took less than 30 minutes. We docked at 6AM, had time to eat breakfast, then went to our marshalling area at 8:30am and were off the ship by 9AM.

Ship: The Voyager of the Seas was moored in 1997, so the ship is a little dated and there are definite signs of wear. But overall the amenities were really impressive and I loved my time on board. There were several bars on board, 3 pools (one adults only), hot tubs, gym, multiple restaurants, a casino, ice skating rink, and a theatre.

Food: The food was sensational. Our group only dined at the restaurants included in the cruise bookings; the Windjammer buffet and Sapphire Dining Room, and we were so impressed with the quality of each meal we ate (and there were plenty of them). We ate at the Windjammer every day for lunch, and the Sapphire every night for dinner and then went between the two for breakfast. At breakfast the Sapphire has a choice of an a-la-carte or a buffet, and both were great. There are several other restaurants on board for an additional fee, but we didn’t feel the need to visit them. At the Sapphire dinners you have an assigned waiter and drinks attendant, and we absolutely loved ours! Archie and Rima from Deck 4 made our time on the Voyager so special, and we really enjoyed seeing them every evening for dinner. The dining room manager Derrick from deck 4 was also wonderful, and always came to chat to us when he saw us.

I stayed in a Promenade Stateroom by myself on Deck 6. The room was very comfortable, and spacious for one person. I had a queen size bed, an L-shaped couch, a dresser and a large wardrobe with approximately 15 coat hangers. There was also ample storage around the bedroom including space for your luggage under the bed, a small set of drawers, and storage in the dresser and behind the dresser windows. The room had a bar fridge that is set at 13 degrees (enough to keep drinks/snacks cool) and a tv that has pay-per-view movies, some free viewing, and a channel where you can check your on-board expenses. The bathroom was bigger than I expected with a decent sized vanity and face level and under basin storage. The bathroom just had a shower which was quite compact, but it had great water pressure.

My window looked out onto the Promenade on deck 5, so it was great to see what was happening/how busy it was at different times during the day. With my curtains closed the room was pitch black, so that was a positive. My travel agent booked me in an adjoining room, but I didn’t actually know the people next door. The door was locked for the whole cruise, but I would recommend doing your research and checking deck plans when making your booking to avoid these rooms if you can, as I could hear the people next door quite clearly.

Don’t bother packing a GHD hair straightener or curling iron – they do not work! My group had a variety of GHD products and none of them worked on the ship. One member of the group had a standard hair straightener and it worked. I would recommend doing your research on that. GHD’s don’t work in America due to their voltage, and this is an American cruise liner, so that is really the only explanation I can offer there.

My room was made up twice daily by my assigned room attendant who was absolutely lovely and informative. She is also very talented at fashioning animals out of towels - which I loved.
