First time on the Golden Princess cruising to New Zealand from Melbourne. As we took an overnight flight from Perth we arrived very early spending a number of hours at Tullamarine to burn some time before sky bus and tram to station Pier. many were disappointed that there is nowhere to wait under cover at all, not like other ports so be prepared if it's hot or raining. We were let into the port facilities at about 11.30 AM and soon after boarded. Ship interiors were as good as we have seen as far as cabin, restaurants and public areas go. Exterior is a bit worn, many of the spa pools were out of action for the entire cruise. Had issues with our cabin toilet as well taking up to 15 minutes to flush some mornings but it was repaired about 10 days into the cruise. Staff were fantastic as usual, great cabin steward, waiters etc. As we are platinum members we were treated to special afternoon nibblies in Skywalkers nightclub every day. Must say there seems to be a little more economizing every time we cruise. No more happy hour sessions at all. We had a cyclone travel through New Zealand on the way so Fiordland was cancelled. We received $25 each port tax credited to our accounts as recompense. This was after we received $150 each pre cruise as Auckland was also cancelled. Entertainment was the same old performers we have seen up to three times in a row on Princess so if you are a regular be prepared for a repeat. Unfortunately despite the new hand washing and sanitizing before meals and being very careful my wife picked up a cough which has descended into a chest then kidney infection since returning home. Overall we enjoyed ourselves dancing the night away most nights. We shall return.

Port Reviews

Dunedin

Strolled around town and had a look at the Cadbury factory

Akaroa

Quite a few shops to have a look at. Many tours available if you pre book.

Wellington

Nice place to visit. Went on the uphill cable tram car ride and walked through the botanical gardens back to the city. Free bus trip to town.

Gisborne

Nice restaurant near the port.

Tauranga

Walked around the beach side. You can climb the huge hill near the ship if you have the energy.
