We love St. Maarten. We are beach people, so this was the first of the beaches we visited on this cruise. We took a cab to Orient Beach (we like the Bikini Beach section). Waves were a bit rough and there was a bit of a strong undertow, but we had a great time. There is a small 'village' across the street from the entrance to Bikini Beach. The village has restaurants and shops. However, since it was Sunday, most were closed and there was a small flea market. We took a cab to Phillipsburg and ate some lunch in a small restaurant, 'Antoines,' by the beach. Beautiful view, reasonably priced, delicious food. We then took the water taxi back to the pier. 


St. Maarten

Dominica is a beautiful island. It was the first time we were there. Dominica's beaches have black sand from their volcanic past, but there is so much to see and do that is natural, adventurous, etc that show off the natural beauty of the island. We chose the Whale & Dolphin watch excursion offered by the Cruise Line. We were not disappointed. We saw no less than 8 different sperm whales (2 sets of mothers and calf, plus several individual whales). Before heading back to the shore, the boat's pilot sailed slowly along the coastline and gave us a history lesson of the island. Some people took a private whale watching tour (less expensive than the cruise line's excursion); however, they did not see many whales. This excursion was worth the money we spent and was truly enjoyable. 


Dominica

First time in Grenada. We took the water taxi to Grand Anse Beach. The beach was beautiful, the water warm. However, we should have rented lounge chairs further away from the water taxi pier - a) chairs were half the price further away; and b) beach was less crowded. There is a small mall at the terminal and lots of places to buy spices just outside the mall.

We did not get off the ship in Barbardos. 


Barbados

Cabin 8056 - Typical CC room.  Located on deck 8 between forward and mid-ship elevators.  Quiet hallway, easy access to elevators.  Cabins above and below so no deck noises.

We were greeted by crew members with champagne and welcomed aboard (and no photographers hounding us as they do on other cruise lines) We ate lunch at the buffet and went to our cabin and dropped off our carry ons.Dinners were in the dining room every night except the one night we at the Normandie.
