My daughter and I chose this cruise out of Galveston because we could drive to the port in under ten hours, stay one night in a hotel and then board the ship early on departure day. Also we have to work our travel trips around her daughter's school break schedule and her work vacation days. My husband and I have cruised with Royal Caribbean before and have always enjoyed the ship amenities and ports. This was a first cruise for my daughter's family so we were excited to have them with us This was also probably the last cruise for my husband and me due to his health problems so we wanted one last trip with our daughter and her family. Unfortunately, this was still during hurricane season and it was our bad luck that there was a hurricane headed toward our cruise route. As a result the Ship's Captain had to cut our port stops and we only made two of our three stops. Seas were pretty rough and the cabin with my daughter, her husband and daughter was near the bow and they had a very rough ride. They were seasick most of the at sea days and had trouble sleeping. My husband and I had an inside handicapped cabin that looked over the atrium/parade area. We had no problems with the extra motion of the ship and enjoyed our cabin's handicapped amenities. We also had a very attentive cabin attendant that we rewarded for all his attention. Our only struggle was trying to get his handicap scooter onto the elevators as the elevators were always packed with guests. We waited for 3 or 4 elevators sometimes to be able to load him into one. We tried to avoid the busier areas of the ship as a result but could not do that when we were on the way down to eat at the buffet which was also very crowded and had to maneuver his scooter through all the people and to a seating area for handicapped.

Cabin Review

Our cabin was for handicapped individual and worked very good for us. The shower was large enough for my husband and we had no problems getting him in and out. Only bad thing was that when we ran the shower it flooded the floor outside of the shower even with the curtain pulled all around and would flow over the floor drain to the tile floor area around the toilet so I had to use extra towels to make sure the floor was dry to avoid falls.

Port Reviews

Costa Maya

My husband and I did exit the ship for a few hours and just walked thru the tourist shopping area at the end of the pier so I can't really say anything about Costa Maya.
