Our cruise from Shanghai up the Yangtze River was a relaxing experience in a new part of the world for us...providing educational and cultural experiences. The ship, room, food, entertainment and lectures were all excellent. My husband did visit the on-board doctor of Chinese medicine to see about a condition that Western medicine doesn't treat...capsules of herbs were prepared for him...does help the condition. Seeing the temples and cruising the gorges with the mists playing on the mountaintops was magical. My husband is an engineer...so seeing the Three Gorges Dam was exciting...although only seen from a visitor's viewpoint...not a tour of the turbines. Plus the trips to Xian and Beijing (Great Wall/ Imperial City) were excursions much treasured. Our wonderful guide, "Larry" was both friendly and informative...knew English well and was very understandable...giving us history, stories, and details. The ancient "bells" were awesome...and the two performances that we saw in Xian and Beijing were beautifully enacted glimpses into China's past.
The Bund was only a short walk from the hotel that Viking put us in for Shanghai...a nice view across the river to see a cosmopolitan city of skyscrapers and architecture.
