I choose this cruise as I had travelled with Silversea before and it was reasonable/OK. This cruise was hell. No champagne on arrival, chaos, lifts broken and generally disorganised. Did not see butler for the first 26 hours, so no drinks I wished to drink in my minibar. Minibar stocked with beer, coke and sugary drinks - nothing I would ever touch - so first 26 hours no personalised cabin service from butler as advertised. Did receive a note from butler saying he missed me - strange as I was several hours in cabin unpacking. Spa and hairdressing awful. Hair wash and blow dry not done in front of mirror - and end result when I was able to look in mirror was so bad I returned to cabin to use my own heated rollers. Spa treatment had to return next day for them to do it properly. Whole time having treatments in spa there is this horrendous pressure to change your beauty routine and do what they recommend. This will not happen, my cosmetic products are better than what Silversea use. Wheelchairs and zimmerframes in corridors so a health risk should there be a fire or need to escape without lighting. For two nights when they sea was a little choppy there was loud noises throughout the night which sounded like machinery moving so no sleep for two whole night. What is interesting that when I reported this horrendous noise and sleepless nights to staff on Silversea they assured me no one else had ever complained of such a noise. Only to find another couple on another deck having to be moved from their cabin for the same noise at night AND I READ ON CRUISE CRITIC yet another couple have experienced the same noise at night on Silversea -- so obvious Silversea lied to me when they told me no one else had every complained. I was ill when on board with respiratory infection and spent Xmas Day and Boxing Day in bed. Guests were sitting in public areas and cramped mini buses coughing and sneezing and 70% of guests probably suffered with the bug that was being spread around. Several guests left the cruise early due to bronchitis, one person had to be evacuated when at sea off California. Officers polite but I feel they had agenda and attitude because I complained about my cabin and sleepless nights. Lectures really just 'lessons' the speakers had not been involved 'hands on' in what they talked about. Many shows with singing were amateurish - the sixties night singing could only be described as 'shrill' and Suzy the flutist had performed on my previous Silversea cruise - Does she perform on all cruises? Not worth the money. Other passengers told me to cruise Seaborne in future. I am intending to take their advice.
