Going through the Panama Canal was something that I always wanted to do, so this was the cruise for me. We have been to Miami before so we didn't do anything special before the cruise. Embarkation was totally smooth; Disembarkation.....not so much. Because of bad weather the ship had to slow down and we were late getting into Long Beach. Then, it took forever before they started calling groups to disembark.
We had booked the Carnival Shuttle to take us to the airport and that was a complete disaster; they had long lines of people, but few buses available. Some people were beginning to panic about missing their flights because of getting into port so late and then not having a bus available.
This was our 4th time on the Splendor, so we were familiar with the ship, and the decor doesn't bother me. Our cabin was fine; our Steward and his helpers were GREAT!
The beds are comfortable. There is plenty of room and closet space. There is only one outlet, so bring a multi-plug if you need to plug in more than one thing.
We did Antigua on our own through Carnival. The bus took us to Antigua and a guide gave us a good history of the area. We were dropped off at the Jade Factory & Museum, which was very interesting. After that we walked around town to the City Park and the Chocolate Factory and various stores, ending up back at the Jade Factory for the bus ride back to the ship. It was a very leisurely and relaxing time.
We've been there several times before, so just went ashore and bought some souveniers.
