The ship. It was our second time on Koningsdam and I will admit, although not as grand as last January, it was fantastic! First off there were two disappointing things: the NY Deli and the BBC movies being shown poolside. That said, the rest was fantastic as expected. Granted there are no "hairy chest" contests by the pool and you don't see rowdy groups of drunken party goers, but that's why I chose Holland America. I call it "rest & relaxation". The rooms are very typical unless you compare to Seabourn or the likes. The service is always top notch. We love the Grand Dutch café, the Tamarind, the Pinnacle and the Canaletto. The America's test Kitchen is a favorite as is the Digital Work shop. I enjoy the World Stage and must admit the shows always seem to be just a touch above most of the other lines. my favorite night time activity is the Music Walk. This last cruise had the best Billboard duo ever. Closed it down every night with pretty much the same lively group, great entertainers. BB King was very good as we jumped back and forth between Billboard and Queen's Lounge every night.
I really hate to see poor reviews. Firstly because someone didn't have a great vacation but mostly because people don't do their research before sailing. The offerings are there but it's up to each cruiser to pick that ship that offers his or her likings! They certainly are not all the same!!!!
It was partially obstructed but for the Caribbean, where you only see water at night, it was great. I wouldn't choose obstructed for Alaska, Panama canal, or Fiords, but fine for Caribbean. We could see everything except straight down along the hull. The service was a 10, the shower refreshing, and the bed super comfortable. The balcony is small, but there was only two of us so it was plenty big!
