When I booked a solo cabin for this cruise, I learned I must include a second person or I would not get the same price. I added my daughter's name, although there was no thought of her going. As time came to receive documents, I learned I must include her identification papers or boarding pass would not be sent. Again I tried to tell MSC that I was sailing solo, but they insisted on issuing boarding passes and luggage tags for both of us. After boarding on January 20, I was called in the dining room to come to the service counter....apparently they were still looking for my daughter. I sail frequently, but this was a first for me.
My balcony cabin was just fine. Many complaints about the small size of the shower and the entire bathroom. I had no problem with the plexiglass shower, but did miss the small bottle of lotion that usually appears on the counter. No conditioner in the shower, but pump containers of shampoo and soap were on the wall. Towels were changed regularly and were thick and white.
Bedding was very comfortable so far as the mattress and pillows, but I had a real problem with the heavy duvet used on a ship that remains in the Caribbean. Who needs it? I asked my room steward for a light weight blanket, and find they have none on board. I ended up using a top sheet covered by a beach towel. Not my idea of a great way to sleep seven nights on a new ship.
Furnishings were new and in great shape. Twin beds were combined to make a queen, but the two heavy duvets remained. The balcony had two chairs and a small table - quite adequate for the amount of use given on this cruise. Lights could be operated from bedside with no problem, and a small direct reading light allowed for one person to have light while the other could sleep.
