We loved getting a "sampler tray" of so many Caribbean islands. We did "nature-y" excursions where we could. We did not do any bus tours. We did do the walking tour of San Juan. This was a bit too long for some of the older cruisers, but they just let the guide know they were heading back early, which was no problem. We talked one of the catamaran operators into turning off the party music while sailing; I had been afraid to ask the crew, but it turns out they prefer it too!
The Viking Sea is an amazing achievement, both in the sense of designing and building it, and in terms of keeping it running so gracefully. The crew seem genuinely happy; they have their own relaxation areas and I do believe they are treated well, which was important to me. They really seem to enjoy working on board a great ship.
The ship never felt crowded; not even close. Sometimes we wondered where everybody else was. If you can find something to complain about here, you will find it anywhere.
The cabin was quiet, clean, mod, sleek, and efficient, and very comfortable. I loved sitting out on the veranda. The shower had great pressure, the bed was huge and comfortable. There was an easy to reach switch that turned on some subdued but easily bright enough lights for those night-time trips to the bathroom. Everything was super well-designed and thought out. Air conditioner worked brilliantly.
I wish I was still there!
