  3. Celebrity Millennium
Celebrity wins again - a great break on the high seas! This was our second cruise with Celebrity and our first on the Millennium or "Millie" as her crew affectionately call her. She's an old girl, at 18 years, but maintained pretty well and the crew, led from the front by the lively, charming Capt Alex Papadopoulos, take a real pride in introducing her cruise guests to all aspects of her workings - from the immaculately clean galley (kitchens) churning out excellent food daily - to the hi tech bridge. Capt Alex says Kalamari to all his cruise passengers ... at first I thought he was offering me a squid sandwich but it turned out to be "Good Morning" in Greek. Excellent on board entertainment in the fantastic Celebrity Theatre, led by Steve, the friendly and experienced Cruise Director and Sam, the lovely Entertainments Coordinator, meant that we looked forward to our evenings on board, even when the sea was a bit bumpy. We saw first class shows every night, magicians, singers, dancers and comedians - all first rate. Despite poor weather - pouring rain in Hong Kong on departure, and overcast cloudy weather in Vietnam - we had a great time anyway - meeting interesting fellow cruisers on board, dancing to the excellent ship's band Head Start - and learning from informative excursions led by enthusiastic local guides. Our only real disappointment was that this huge cruise liner had to anchor in deep water ports some two hours or more away from the major cities on the itinerary and so a lot of the excursion time off the ship took place on coaches hurtling at high speed past fascinating sites, rather than having sufficient time to wander round these exotic destinations to explore at a more leisurely pace. That aside, highly recommended - but perhaps not the best for singles, who did not seem to have as much fun as we couples were having.

Excellent steward, Jhon - nothing too much trouble, although it took us a while to work out how to switch off the air con and turn up the heating as it was quite chilly initially.
