The choice of islands and a chance to check out the new Holland America ship were two of the main reasons we choose this cruise. Being from Florida, it was nice to see the more volcanic, rugged mountainous islands rather than the flat beach ones like we have at home.
The Koningsdam is much more contemporary than the other HAL ships and surprisingly to this veteran HAL cruiser, was very pleasing. Yes, the colors, especially in the dining room, were not the rich/darker shades I am a customed to, but nice none the less.
The two levels around the mid ship pool is very nice as is the Queens Lounge with its two levels as well. The show lounge (World Stage) at first seems gray and drab compared with the other dam ships, but when the LED panels come on it is quite appealing. Better view lines, too. It only holds about 600 guests, so there are three shows in the evening g now rather than two.
Again, softer colors here too. Nice shower (no tub) with glass door and great lighted mirror at sink. Big wall mounted TV that was interactive. Our room was quiet near the rear elevators.
It rained hard and we did not get out of the city which we were not impressed with.
