It’s been awhile since I’ve sailed on Royal, Carnival treats us great so we never have a reason to look at other options. I do remember the last time thinking Royal did a little bit better service wise and food being slightly better. But after a few years I guess that has changed. I found the service below Carnival now, the value way below, and the cleanliness was eh... The positives were the merry go round, my daughter and nieces loved that thing. The kids area was nice too, lots of room and options. The negatives were the nickel and dime charges on everything. After spending $2600 for a room we still had to pay $50 for 2 to eat at a taco restaurant. I spend half that near port canaveral and the food is much better. Their was no view, not sure how they justify that. They have had taco stands on a few carnival cruises I have been on that actually tasted better to me. Room service was a charge where usually it’s free, food wasn’t higher quality just charging for same type food. The casino treats me great on Carnival, I get free drinks the first night of every cruise I’v been on with them. After 7 days I asked the hostess how I still don’t have free drinks and they said I didn’t have enough points. I literally had over $1000 on some bets in the casino, but I guess that doesn’t mean much. I just felt in general I was over paying for pretty much everything. I don’t mind paying for better quality, a view, certain things you can charge for. I didn’t feel Royal was doing anything but charging for the same thing in buffet/dining area moved to another area. We had bought 3 nights special dining, but only used 2 because the difference wasn’t justified in our opinion we enjoyed eating in general dining more than speciality restaurants, we did Chops twice and didn’t think we’d like any of the others.

The cabin was a little dirty, the couch looked soiled. On a side note the public restrooms were very nice on the boat. I suggest if you have a young child request a tub. On Carnival they insist we have one and won’t book me in a room that doesn’t, royal/travel agent didn’t seem to think that’s a concern because it was never mentioned and we didn’t get one. Didn’t love that the water was shot off one night, kid woke up crying and really could have used some running water.
