We were last on the Columbus in June 2017 for the Iceland cruise, and booked this with two other friends. We had an upgrade to a Junior Suite with a balcony and, although the cabin had not been refurbished as far as we could see, was very comfortable and roomy, with a good shower and a sofa and armchair plus a small balcony.
Embarkation was fine, reasonably well organised bearing in mind the numbers of passengers. There was about a 45 minute a delay in disembarkation at Tilbury, whether it was down to the ship or the port authority at Tilbury we do not know. Some passengers seem to be very upset and annoyed by this but it was a case of just being patient.
The ship was beautifully decorated for Christmas, and we found the atmosphere just right, festive but not overwhelmingly Christmassy ie: no Christmas piped music!
We had an upgrade to a Junior Suite with a balcony and, although the cabin had not been refurbished as far as we could see, was very comfortable and roomy, with a good shower and bath and a sofa and armchair plus a small balcony. Very quiet as well. Canapes and fresh fruit are also delivered daily to the cabin, and laundry is complimentary. There is also an umbrella, slippers and dressing gown to use onboard and a safe. Thoughtfully suppled are also a pair of binoculars and the Times Atlas. Very happy with the service and the cabin.
Beautiful old port building. Handled the number (1500) of passengers embarking very well. Beautifully decorated for Christmas. Tea and coffee facilities there and a good amount of seating. The car park was a long way from the terminal and shuttle buses and lorries were on hand to take luggage onboard while we parked our car. Plenty of staff to direct us. No problems at all.
