  3. Celebrity Eclipse
Celebrity is still offering some kind of (modern) luxury compared to many other big cruise lines and although they are not so good they used to be. The Solstice-class ships have some nice features. The Aqua class gives to the cruise a special touch but the price compared to the normal balcony is relative high. The cruise terminal in Miami is absolutely too small for Celebrity. Some time ago we embarked Enchanment of the seas in the same terminal with no queues but with Celebrity it was rather chaotic. We could use the Aqua class line which still was no fast lane. Same problems seemed to occur in the Captain class lines which we choose to skip this time although we had the status. After waiting for check-in people were directed into other line which was between the check-in lines as there is no waiting space in the terminal. Boarding has started but it was extremely slow. Before the stairs some workers tried to short people into two line, the "normal" line was hopeless but the line for status, suites, concierge and aqua was not so much better. Before the cabins were open the Ocean view cafe had enough space for all hungry ones. That is not so often in other ships. Beverage packages were offered very eagerly but you could also get a drink quick otherwise. Cabins were open 1.30 but the bags arrived first after safety drill. We needed to get our one of our bags from downstairs as it has alarmed by the security. The line was impossible and people rather aggressive. After quite a wait we got our bag which was marked safe and nobody wanted to know what is inside. Wonder why it was not delivered to the cabin. Safety drill was extremely long, the new video was totally useless and the whole drill was a strange combination of extreme seriousness and trying to be amusing at the same time. Aqua restaurant was a bit better than the MDR in the previous trips. Sadly the lady standing at the door was not up to the standards and that was probably the reason why you had to wait for a table almost every time. We were rather flexible where to sit so we usually needed to wait only for a couple of minutes but some seemed to get even a peeper. You cannot reserve a time that is rather strange. The menu is upgrade from the MDR and they do full fill the extra wishes very easily. The somelier was good and all the waiter as well, although nothing special. Tuscan grill used to be a good special restaurant but the new menu did not appeal us. The service was slow and nonchalant. Very often somebody though run to our table shouting: "How is everything? Excellent?" and run away with waiting no answer. Quisine has food with Mediterranean flare. The menu is an iPad but the waiter will still write down you order. We have been there before but the instructions from the waiter were rather confusing. Either this menu did not appeal to us. Murano is the best from the special restaurants and the food and the service is in the level you can except when paying extra for a special restaurant. The menu has been the same for years but the presentation of the dishes was still other. The waiter were good especially the assistant waiter. Ocean view buffet selection of food has gone down. It also stayed same every day although they tried to have same themes like offering fish and chips for couple of times as daily special. There was usually only one fish, that was out rather often and you had to wait 5 minutes to get some more. Caesar salad was not anymore made for you, but you could still mix it yourself. No more dinner sushi. For vegetarian it mostly means salad and asian which was the same every day. Celebrity though still has free and real ice cream in the buffet. The drink waiter were quite easy to get to stop at your table. On some sea days the restaurant was chaotic but you could still get a table after looking for a while. The tables were cleaned quick. Martini bar is the heart of the night life and is definitely the best bar of all ships. Hopefully it is still found in the Edge class and will be made bigger. Eclipse still has Cellar masters which has almost none guest every night. Gastro Pub in Equinox is much better and gets even some people to stop in. World class bar has only special cocktails, which are really good but the place at itself is quite quiet all the time. The lounge by the special restaurant feels very dark and old fashioned. Passport bar was turned in some parts like the gastro pub but the place feels rather forgotten although it is situated in the atrium. Pool area was very full even if the weather was not too good. It is totally impossible to get a chair after 9.30. We did like all the others and reserved our before the breakfast. It is the only way to get a chair. Sadly we noticed that a lot of chairs were kept reserved but nobody came when we left the chairs and went to lunch. Probably they never came. Or one family member was reserving 10 chairs but top 2 of them came and used the chairs. We cruised during the holiday time. Christmas was good invisible for us although the decorations were even too massive. New Year party was actually organized solely by the pool. It of course gathered all in the same place but did also leave no choice to stay inside. I don´t like those New Year hats given in every cruise but like still to be silly because of the new year. I admit is stupid to complain but in Eclipse I could not get one even if I tried to. They were given to some guests in the restaurants, but not to us. I tried to search one by the pool. No success. I even went to the guest relations to get one but the staff was quite rude and told us to go the pool party to get one. They did not have any. Small thing with no meaning but which did not feel nice. The most wonderful thing compared to other cruise lines in Celebrity are the public toilets which are almost perfectly clean. This is the only place when entering the same toilet second time the worker responsible for the toilet greets me "welcome back, thank you for using the toilet". A bit peculiar but nice. The man taking care of the men´s restroom bear the MDR was the most memorably staff member in whole ship. Sadly I don´t remember his name as he really deserves to get a promotion. The production shows in Celebrity are different and of very high standard. We did not find the guest entertainers to be that standards. The comedians were not funny and the singers a bit old fashioned. Celebrity has not have too many "adult shows" like Quest type of show or dance competitions but the game shows are made for older public. Disembarkation was took longer as shown in the time table, probably because there was once again not enough space in the terminal. The taxi lines were totally impossible.

Cabin Review

AquaClass
Cabin A1
Standard balcony cabin which is just called aqua. You get some strange juice and daily canapees, but no cutlery to eat them. It felt also a bit dangerous that the canapees were left in warm for hours and consisted often of shrimps and ingredients like that. We did not use the Persian Garden but mainly took the aqua cabin because of the Aqua restaurant.
