We always go at Christmas and usually with P&O in the Caribbean. It was 2 years since we had been on Britannia so it was interesting to see what differences there were. The first was the cabin as last time we had been upgraded to a suite. This time we had our usual balcony cabin with a sofa. We thought this was smaller than the equivalent we had had on other P&O ships, and the cabins with sofas are slightly larger than most on Britannia as they have only a chair. Anyway we managed!!! The worst was the bathroom. P&O installed fixed doors on their shower cubicles on Britannia - other ships have shower curtains. This is good and bad. Good because you are not fighting with the shower curtain when using the shower. Bad because the door opened outwards into the bathroom which made it difficult to get around the door when it was open (and we are by no means big people). There was plenty of hot water, the usual quality shampoos etc but the hand soap in the wash hand basin was poor. The shower head could have done with a good clean (note that this was not just a point in our cabin but also applied to another cabin on the same deck which we had as a day let on our departure day). Good TV which also showed a lot of premier league football (which saved OH from having to go down to the pub to watch!!!!). Silly thing is that you can get multiple TV channels but you can't view your on board account like you can on the other ships). Bed was comfy. Balcony was fine and we were on the port side which we prefer.

The ship overall had less Christmas decorations than previously but what they had were beautiful. We thought the food was much better than on the Azura (2016 cruise) and of course the buffet layout on Britannia is so much better than on Azura or Ventura. We ate well on the ship in all the venues. We went twice to the Beach House and the Glass House, once to Epicurean and once to Sindhu, and three times for evening meat in the buffet.. The rest of the time we ate in the MDR. Service in all venues was very good. Note that they say that there is no need to book for the Beach House but there is as otherwise you will not get in. In fact some of the dining venues got booked out for the whole cruise not long after we left Barbados.

We had 2 changes to the irinerary due to the hurricanes and one of the replacement ports was Tobago. We had been once before but the place was shut as it was Boxing Day. This time we booked a ship's trip to a bird sanctuary and we can say this is once of the best ship's trips we have ever done. To be within a foot of humming birds whilst they feed was an experience not to be forgotten. Otherwise we just got off the ship for a stroll and a couple of beers at the other ports, and to get access to wifi. I refuse to pay the extortionate amount that P&O now demand for this service and people who did said the reception was rubbish. Even the crew said it was very poor. Meanwhile we god excellent reception on land at most places for the price of a couple of beers which we would have had anyway and in Tobago there was even good free wifi on the tour minibus!!

Cabin Review

Seemed cramped to what we have had before, especially the bathroom. It would help if the shower door opened into the shower rather than into the bathroom.
