Princess has consistently delivered excellent experiences for us. We just wanted a get away in the sun and to de-stress. Pricing was good so we took the Regal. We found the entertainment absolutely great. The quality of the bands and performers was probably the best we have seen. The Piazza was really neat. This is where the big ship shows itself off. All the usual princess spaces were there but with more room. The specialty and main dining rooms were great both in food quality and service level. The new layout of the buffet and the variety of foods was as well. Probably the thing I was most impressed with was the technology. Although It was not completely rolled out, the medallion internet was a real WOW. It was almost as good as at home on land. I was able to surf the internet and keep in touch back home effectively in real time. YEAH! I look forward to the complete roll out of the tech in the future, The Casino was larger than usual. This was a plus for us.
On the negative side , Our standard balcony room was tighter than other ships we have been on. This will probably be a key deciding factor for our next cruise. I found the gym to be a bit small (ie crowded) though the outside track and circuit equipment was quite nice.
I think Discovery at Sea was a bit thin compared to other trips we have taken. Quality of speakers ( presentation more than knowledge confused their message. On a recent cruise to Hawaii I was blown away by the quality of speakers provided, so that is my benchmark.
Princess is trying to get more $ per square foot by shrinking the staterooms and balconies just enough to make them serviceable and no more. Or otherwise to incent the cruiser to upgrade. Otherwise we found the room well looked after and everything works. Appreciated large TV and the new technology in it. Serve was excellent.
