Sail Date: Dec 2017
Cabin: Deluxe Spa Ocean-View Verandah Stateroom

Booked in early December based on a promotional e-mail from HAL. We enjoy cruising at New Years and had other plans that were disrupted which left us with this week free. Received a great deal on an Ocean view Cabin which we later upgraded to a better and very LARGE panoramic Ocean View on deck 10. Embarkation was effortless and we were from check in to cabin in under 35 minutes. Eurodam is a perfect size, not too big, not too small. Spotlessly clean - we never and I mean never saw trash or dishes or anything out of place in public areas. Tables were cleared quickly and there were always stewards vacuuming or polishing. I love the décor of HAL ships but I must say I found the décor on Eurodam a bit generic and boring. Not dated, but just kind of blah! Loved the Spa and the spa staff - the men's sauna was out of commission 6 of the 7 days so that was a disappointment. The therapy pool and adjacent "thermal suite" was impeccably maintained by two of the hardest working attendants, Yogi and Yuri , I have ever encountered onboard any ship. The Spa was spotless and appeared to have been recently renovated. Dining was good - few memorable dishes - but nothing objectionable. Ship was full but never felt crowded. pinnacle was especially good and our waiter Frank (from Holland) was a delight and certainly has the interpersonal skill to be a maître d. Cannaletto's was excellent, while the Thai restaurant was just ok. Entertainment was average but enjoyable. We enjoyed the cruise and will certainly sail Holland America again but there was nothing memorable. We enjoyed a Cabana the day we were in the DR and this was very nice; however, Caban's are hard to get and many of them were taken by passengers on the 2-3 week itineraries. Our only disappointment was with the bar staff- both servers and bar tenders. There were not enough of either and getting a drink was a 30-45 minute wait when using a server or if you went to the bar you were greeted by a surly or unfriendly distracted bar tender - this was the case throughout the ship. my guess is they hate the drink packages because it adversely impacts their tips. Further, they seemed to have far fewer bar staff. on New Years Eve , there were only four servers to be seen serving the LIDO and deck 10 above where the majority of passengers were gathered. When we went to other bars to get a drink, many of them were closed (On New Years Eve?). Further, when we did order after 50 minutes we had to chase down the waitress to get are drinks, but more importantly, our Key Cards so we could get into our cabin to grab our jackets as we were both getting chilled. - never experienced this before on most other ships and lines you are fighting the bar staff off!

Cabin Review

Deluxe Spa Ocean-View Verandah Stateroom

Cabin VQ

Will book this cabin again - loved it - great location (though be careful as the motion of the ship is more pronounced up high on deck 10). Huge when compared to standard cabins and one deck down from Crow's Nest (our favorite lounge) and one up from Spa!

Port Reviews

Grand Turk

Generic Carnival port facility - nice beach not much else

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata)

New but typical carnival engineered port. Nice but "fake"
